Overdraft Protection

We’ve all been there… a check clears one day earlier than expected or that eventual repair becomes a sudden emergency. We understand that accidents will happen. Alliance Catholic Credit Union offers Courtesy Pay Overdraft Protection and an Overdraft Line of Credit option so you can access funds whenever you need by using Online Banking.

Overdraft Line of Credit

Our Overdraft Line of Credit (OD LOC) option automatically transfers money into your account (up to an eligible credit limit) in the event of an overdraft. You can also advance your Overdraft Line of Credit and transfer funds to your account whenever you need using Online Banking!

What you need to Know about Overdraft Protection, Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  1. We offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a regular savings account ($5.00 fee per transfer) or an Overdraft Protection Line of Credit*. These plans are less expensive than our standard “Courtesy Pay” program. To learn more, contact our Member Services Department.
  2. Our standard Courtesy Pay overdraft practice comes with your account if you are a member in good standing. Courtesy Pay is a non-contractual service that allows us to pay an item presented against your checking account, even if it causes the account to become overdrawn. This service is added to checking accounts of members in good standing, which is defined as:

A) Making regular deposits sufficient to cover transactions;
B) Bringing the account to a positive balance – meaning not overdrawn for more than 30 days consecutively; and
C) The account is not subject to any legal process.

If a member meets the criteria, we may, at the Credit Union’s sole discretion, pay overdrafts up to the Courtesy Pay limit, including our normal Non-Sufficient Funds Fee.

What are the standard Courtesy Pay overdraft practices that come with my account?

We will authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

      • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account
      • Automatic bill payments
      • Recurring debit card transactions
      • (ACH) Automated Clearinghouse withdrawals (ex: utility bill auto paid from your checking each month)

We will not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to:

    • ATM transactions
    • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay for any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Alliance Catholic CU pays my overdrafts under Courtesy Pay?

Under our standard overdraft practice:

  • We will charge you a fee of $33.00 each time we pay an
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.

*You only pay interest on outstanding balances used – see website for current APR for Overdraft Protection Line of Credit.
